Q: Can allergies occur with implants?

Q&A

Answer

Many implant bodies are made of pure titanium.

Titanium has high biocompatibility and is widely used in medical materials (such as jawbone reconstruction plates and orthodontic devices).

However, reports of titanium allergies are also observed, and individuals who are positive for titanium allergy when allergic to other metals are reported to be 5.3% (※).

If you have a metal allergy, it may be possible to use non-metallic materials for implants, such as zirconia.

If you are concerned about titanium allergy, it is recommended to undergo a metal allergy test.
